Can non-woven fabrics be used as synthetic leather backing?

Non woven fabric can be used as the base fabric for synthetic leather and is a common material in synthetic leather manufacturing. The following is a detailed introduction of the points:

1、 The reason why non-woven fabric can be used as a synthetic leather base fabric
Uniform structure and good flatness
Providing a stable substrate is beneficial for the adhesion and formation of coating processes.
Excellent flexibility
Can bend and stretch synthetic leather without breaking easily.
Low cost
Compared to textile or woven fabrics, the manufacturing cost is more economical and suitable for large-scale applications.
Strong adsorption capacity
Beneficial for the bonding between PU (polyurethane) or PVC (polyvinyl chloride) coatings and base fabrics.

2、 Non woven fabric base is commonly used for the following types of synthetic leather
PU artificial leather
Widely used in shoe uppers, bags, sofas, gloves and other products.
PVC ARTIFICIAL LEATHER
Suitable for mid to low end products such as car seats, floor leather, decorative leather, etc.
Microfiber synthetic leather (partially layered)
Some mid to low end microfiber products use non-woven fabric as the bottom layer, followed by a layer of ultra-fine fiber mesh.

3、 Advantages of using non-woven fabric for synthetic leather base fabric
Lightweight design
Reduce the overall weight of the product, making it easier to carry and wear.
Good molding performance
It can be molded, embossed, and laminated to meet various process requirements.
Adjustable weight and thickness
Different specifications of non-woven fabrics (such as 40g, 80g, 120g/m ², etc.) can be selected according to product usage.
Strong adaptability
Compatible with multiple surface materials, supporting processing methods such as spraying, compounding, and foaming.

4、 Precautions
Low mechanical performance
Compared to woven fabrics, it has slightly lower tear resistance and durability, making it suitable for medium to low strength applications.
Easy to absorb moisture and deform (requires treatment)
Stability may be affected in high humidity environments, and coating or heat treatment is usually required to improve performance.
Key to Quality Control
The density and surface treatment of non-woven fabric directly affect the quality of leather.
